Legacy Consultants Championing Clients’ Lifelong Health and Wealth

Legacy Consultants Championing Clients’ Lifelong Health and Wealth

Of all the titles you might expect to find on a financial advisor’s bookshelf, You’re Not Sick, You’re Thirsty!—a book about staying hydrated for good health—probably isn’t one of them. But James Moshenko, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM, CRPC, president of Legacy Consultants Wealth Management, has dozens of copies of this and other wellness books he encourages clients to read.

“I ask my clients, ‘Have you picked up a copy of the water book yet?’” Moshenko says with a chuckle. “Financial success isn’t worth much if you’re not healthy enough to enjoy it.”

This is the philosophy Moshenko and his team share: that physical and financial health are closely related. By taking preventive measures now—from developing healthy habits to mapping the road to and through retirement—people can live more fulfilling lives and stave off serious risks.

"It's not about the money. It's what the money's about. We want our clients to enjoy a high quality of life for many years to come."                                                               ~James Moshenko, Certified Financial PlannerTM, CRPC

In fact, the firm has begun offering wellness workshops led by one of its clients, a registered dietician. Attendance has been robust and, based on what they’ve learned, Moshenko and Mike Kopko, his junior partner, have each lost 20 pounds in the past 12 months.

“Achieving good health and financial security—neither happens overnight,” Moshenko says. “You can’t earn it and bank it; you have to keep making progress toward your goals and adjust as your circumstances change.”

Informed Perspective Enhances the Planning Process

A probation officer in his 20s, Moshenko entered the financial services “on a lark” more than 40 years ago. He spent five years with an annuity company followed by 15 years with a brokerage company before becoming a CFP® and joining independent broker-dealer LPL Financial. That’s when he was finally free to help clients manage all the pieces of their financial lives, without any pressure to sell proprietary products.

“Change forces you to look at things a different way each time,” Moshenko says. “I’ve evolved quite a bit, through variable annuity sales, life insurance, long-term care, financial planning. And I’ve been on every end of the transition from accumulation, pre- and post-retirement, and estate and tax planning. As a result, I’m able to serve clients in a comprehensive way and guide them through the various life stages.”

Longevity of Client Relationships Speaks Volumes

Moshenko enjoys close, often decades-long relationships with clients all over the country. In some cases, he serves multiple generations. His master’s degree in counseling comes in handy, but Moshenko relies more heavily on his sales skills—his ability to listen closely and help clients understand their needs and options.

His greatest asset by far, Moshenko says, is his outstanding staff. “Clients tend to stay with us for a long, long time. They appreciate the fact that everyone here is committed to them and responsive to their needs. And we all share the same focus: helping each person live a rewarding life and create a meaningful legacy.”
